Some characters are smart. These characters go beyond that. Whatever their field of expertise is, they’re one of the best – or maybe the best. They solve problems nobody else can, and they make it look easy. Maybe they’re an expert in a record-breaking number of fields, or have more degrees than any human being should have time to acquire; maybe they’re only an expert in one thing, but they’re far, far better than anyone else. But being a genius comes with drawbacks! Maybe they struggle to make friends, because they’re too focused on academics. Maybe they’re brilliant, but nobody believes them. Maybe all of their expertise has done nothing to prepare them for the new crisis they’ve just been presented with. Write a story about a genius. Starting cults: “Having read his chat logs, she only found that the AI was “talking to him as if he is the next messiah.” The replies to her story were full of similar anecdotes about loved ones suddenly falling down rabbit holes of spiritual mania, supernatural delusion, and arcane prophecy — all of it fueled by AI.”
Screwing up job interviews: “I didn’t find it funny at all until I had posted it on TikTok and the comments made me feel better. I was very shocked, I didn’t do anything to make it glitch so this was very surprising. I would never go through this process ever again. If another company wants me to talk to AI I will just decline.”
Writing fake book reports: “Some newspapers around the country, including the Chicago Sun-Times and at least one edition of The Philadelphia Inquirer have published a syndicated summer book list that includes made-up books by famous authors. […] Only five of the 15 titles on the list are real.“
