As someone who never used livejournal in its heyday, posting here is confusing to me at best. I'm not really sure what I should be writing, or how I should be formatting things. I guess I'll just learn as I go?
Ultimately though, I find that I like the idea of placidly posting my thoughts into the void, so maybe I'll use this site more often if I just break the ice. I'm looking forward to just spilling my thoughts out into a place where I can find them later and not worrying about too many people seeing them.
Obviously I don't mind if people see them at all, or I wouldn't be posting on the internet, but there's a certain relief in knowing nobody follows me here and I can just say whatever I want.

Dear Yuletide
Hi potential future Yuletide writer!
I’m OceanMyth on ao3. This letter is likely to be long, but I’ve done my best to section it into things I like generally, versus specific things I like about a given fandom. I left some prompt-ish ideas for inspiration, but if they don’t gel with what you’re thinking about writing, feel free to leave them. Treating is on and welcome. I’m super excited to read anything you write for me, and I’ll love anything you write for these fandoms!

April Update
I've had an incredibly busy month - hopefully I'll get back into the swing of fandom again after this month. It's been such a long time since I managed to write anything, and that's bugging me. Writing has always been a hobby that provided a chance to relax and escape from stressors, while still keeping my brain engaged and active, and having gone so long without getting to write anything has really just left me in a position where I've been binging youtube videos and slept, and not much else. Mainly because I've had The Curse (Hayfever, allergies, etc) for the past two weeks, and that's not good for getting anything done.
However, my personal real life has been ticking along, and I'm on top of everything I should be on top of, so there's at least that. I was lucky enough to see the total eclipse at the beginning of the month, since I live just off the path of totality, and it was a gorgeous day where I was - clear blue skies, nice weather, cool breeze as I hiked back from where I'd parked to where I was planning to watch the event. Though it did take me an incredibly long time to drive home afterwards, and the number of people smoking did nothing to help my allergy flare up, I was super glad I went.

Ao3 No-Fandom Tag Update
I just saw that Ao3 has managed to sort out their issues with non-fandom tags, and are now canonizing and making changes to preexisting tags - and I am so elated. There's so many minor tag tweaks that would be such an improvement for filtering purposes!
Personally, I'm most excited about the canonized AI related tags - being able to filter out AI generated work (even if it's not a required tag, and people will probably refuse to add it in case it means less eyes on their works) and support human creatives will be wonderful.

Post-NATLA ATLA Fandom
I'm probably not the right person to talk about this, but I was pretty active in the fandom for a time (if my AO3 page doesn't give that away), so I might as well throw my two cents out there onto the internet for posterity. Or at least as an interesting artifact to look back on in as the ATLA fandom continues to adjust to the release of the live action.
Since I haven't seen it, I have no desire to actually talk about the netflix adaptation, because...eh. I'm not going to watch it. Ever, most likely.
(Which really just has to do with my personal ethos regarding adaptations and retellings - I want a retelling or adaptation to add something, to expand, to make things bigger and make me consider new venues of thought and perspectives on material I already know. It doesn't have to be the same; it doesn't have to make choices I agree with, or even like - it just has to be thoughtful regarding the original material. I just want good cross-textual conversation that makes me think, even if it doesn't necessarily elevate (either) the original material or the adaptation itself by being an adaptation. And I have it on good authority from people I love and trust, that natla either doesn't fulfill those criteria, or struggles in such a way that will leave me feeling cold and hollow. So.)
I'm mostly curious about the reactions of the fans in the wake of the release, to be entirely honest. I've already heard from a number of friends that their old ATLA fics have been getting a resurgence in attention - which I've also noticed myself. I've also noticed that the fandom tags have become a swamp of shipwars yet again, which...isn't great, but also not surprising. Weirdly enough though, there hasn't been a ton of new fan material posted (where I've seen it, at least. I'm not on Twitter or on most other platforms besides here, AO3 and Tumblr) - no new art, or fics, or even edits, aside from the occasional gifset from the new show.
Maybe things will change in the near future, as people finish watching through the adaptation, and get past their initial reactions (whether they write fic based on the original out of spite, or find things to explore in the new version, or whatever sparks their interest). For some reason, I don't necessarily see that happening here, though.
Perhaps it's just because people who were fannish already came and went through the renaissance, and have since mellowed out or found new fandom pastures? Maybe the show being on Netflix (where a lot of the renaissance attention already came from) means that those who would have had their interest piqued already knew about it? Or maybe the audience for the NATLA adaptation just aren't particularly interested in transformative fandom?

Tumblr & AI (Cont.)
The point that I don't see getting made about AI enough is the requirement that these systems have on human labor - massive exploitation is needed to categorize and label the data which they scrape.
It's not a fully automated system, not yet. Which means that trying to poison the data set (for writing in particular) might not help as much as we'd hope - and also that the acquisition of tumblr as a data-set won't affect the output of writing AIs as we might expect.
It's not going an AI that uses the word blorbo every few words. It's going to be able to tonally replicate new types of internet dialects, and gauge human lexical patterns in ways which wouldn't have been possible before.

Tumblr & AI
So Tumblr is going the way of the rest of the internet, and getting swallowed up by the hunger to monetize and capitalize off its existing userbase. I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to even have an account at this rate, since it would just make more sense to be the change I'd like to make, and start posting more regularly to other sites.
There's not a lot more to be said, aside from reiterating my exhaustion with the devolving state of the internet. I just want a space where I can exist without feeling like I need to hoard my time and space and attention because someone else will mine it for money I'll never see.

Candy Hearts Exchange Letter 2024
Hey, I’m OceanMyth on Ao3, thanks for checking out my letter!
I’ve included both general prompts and ship prompts per fandom in addition to some general likes, feel free to take from either one if you’ve got an idea, I’m delighted to see what you come up with.
Treats are welcome, and Ao3 gifting is on.
DNWs: High school AUs, Modern AUs for canons not in a modern setting, Coffee Shop AUs, Mafia AUs, Florist AUs, mundane AUs, scat, emetophilia, anal sex, mpreg, vore, bestiality, a/b/o
Preferred POV for fics is 3rd person, not opposed to other POVs as stylistic choices or depending on the format of the fic however (eg; epistolary fic written in the first person).
General Likes: Any of my general likes can be used instead of a specific fandom prompt, if there’s something you find inspiring!
Tropes:
- Domestic Fluff/Slice of Life
- Angst
- Soulmate AUs (not ones involving colorblindness/seeing color relating to meeting your soulmate)
- Mutual Pining
- Getting Together
- Unrequited Pining
- Competency Kink (or incompetency kink)
- Friends to Lovers
- Rivals to Lovers
- Genderswap (for f/f purposes)
- Time Travel
- Outsider POV
Other General Likes:
- Horror Aesthetics (Gore, Violence, General Air of Unease— Cosmic and Body horror are particular favorites)
- Folklore/Fairytales— whether it’s folklore inspired worldbuilding, the inclusion of a specific story for thematic reasons, creatures or even wholesale plot inspiration.
- Dream-sharing/dreams in general (prophetic or otherwise)
- the inhuman (faery, alien etc) adjusting to living with humans
- Unexplained magical occurrences— I like magic/fantasy to have an air of mystery if possible
Smut Likes:
- Oral Sex
- Frottage
- Femdom
- Desperation
- Intercrual
- PIV penetration
- Mutual Masturbation
- Dubcon (bonus if w/ Sex Pollen)
- General messy feelings of regret & shame (not internalized homophobia related for non-Arthuriana canons)
- Somnophilia
Arthurian Mythology:
Specifically I enjoy Chretien de Troyes & Marie de France's takes on Arthuriana, and I liked T.H White and Disney's Sword in the Stone as a kid. Mary Stewart's series is also good. Fillers are welcome to pick whatever other stories they'd like to draw from (whether it’s just medieval texts or newer adaptations), but I would ask that gifts and fills stay away from Mists of Avalon/MZB inspired interpretations & BBC Merlin.
Relationship Prompts
Gawain/Dame Ragnelle (Arthurian)
- I feel like this relationship has a lot of petty bickering, between two people who are both headstrong and strong willed—feel free to write about the circumstances that this might cause within the Arthurian court.
- I’d love to see what happens immediately after the wedding, when Ragnelle comes out in the morning, transformed.
- There’s a version of The Wife of Bath’s Tale/The Marriage of Sir Gawain by Lisa Theriot that I really enjoy on Spotify if you’re looking for a good source to draw from.
Gawain/Lancelot du Lac (Arthurian)
- I’m really digging the idea of a very fucked up AU take on the mythos where somehow Gawain becomes King of Camelot. And how that suddenly fucks up both Gawain’s life, and his relationships—of course, with a focus on how his…situation with Lancelot changes (up to you whether they were already in some form of relationship, or this spurs them into getting together—whatever take you’re interested in exploring).
- Another prompt would be Gawain experiencing the tragedy of Lancelot being in love with his aunt-by-marraige (and his uncle if you’d like). Lots of unrequited pining potential here, feel free to resolve it or leave it unresolved, I’m happy either way.
Kay & Arthur Pendragon (Arthurian)
- The inherent tragedy of watching your younger sibling struggle with the demands of rulership. Also Kay is so loveable and yet utterly incompetent, he feels like the only normal guy out of Arthur’s knights— which isn’t always a good thing.
Other Prompts
- Festival/tourney shenanigans! Whatever season, just bring the air of cheer and joviality! (Or the drama that's going on just behind the scenes, that's good too!)
- Totally platonic questing (where there is definitely no sexual tension whatsoever ;) )
- First Meetings; the evolution of character’s relationships over time— how does a characters first vs last impression of another change?
- Domestic camelot scenes... or domestic questing scenes if the characters are on the road (linked to the prompt above I guess)
- Whatever strange adventures you can imagine that might fit into the era—I love the tension between the pagan & Christian, the changing cultural makeup of Britain at the time, and how the conflicts the knights get into can reflect that tumultuous landscape.
- I do love sibling loyalty and bonds! Sure would be terrible for those bonds to be tested and emotional hurt-comfort to come out of that!
- Love Gawain. Would love terrible things to happen to him— feel free to go nuts.
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight:
Relationship Prompts
Lady Bertilak/Gawain/Bertilak de Hautdesert (Gawain and the Green Knight)
- Love Gawain. Would love terrible things to happen to him— feel free to go nuts
Gawain/Lancelot du Lac (Arthurian)
- Lancelot winds up coming with Gawain to the Green Knight’s home; or Lancelot waits for Gawain’s return
- Gawain kisses Bertilak, and wishes it was a different man
Labyrinth:
I love this movie so much! I enjoy the unspecified fantasy (wrt mythology and worldbuilding) vibes of it, and the inexplicable dreamy-ness of it. It’s mysterious, and I love that vibe a lot. I’ve been thinking about the integrations between the worldbuilding and fantasy thematics that were drawn on lately, and how to measure the separation between the—vagueness? I guess? — of the specific inspirations, and the clear lineage of folklore that’s drawn on. I’d love to see some atypical faery worldbuilding in this fandom, with an emphasis on the wild, ugly, and horrifying rather than just ethereal beauty.
Relationship Prompts
Jareth/Sarah Williams (Labyrinth)
- I’ve been thinking about Loreena Mckennit’s Lady of Shallot a lot recently in conjunction with these two. There’s something about Tennyson’s descriptions of Elaine that are eerily fitting for Jareth, and Mckennit’s addition of Lancelot’s unknowing cruelty that resonates for a particular interpretation of Sarah.
- I love the idea of Jareth, on a certain level, being the Labyrinth, and all of the pain and difficulties that could arise from that. And don’t be afraid to have a story based on this prompt end in tragedy.
- Perhaps Sarah becoming Queen of the Labyrinth changed her—but it changed him too, and now he’s coming to terms with certain mortal weaknesses that he didn’t have before (or hasn’t had in a long time, whatever you’d like to think based on your interpretation of his origins).
- I love the idea of Jareth trying really hard to comfort Sarah; but doing an absolutely terrible job for the sole reason that it has either been so long since he was human, or he was never human in the first place, and thus is very uncertain what to do.
Dredge:
I love the vibes of this game so much—particularly the loneliness experienced by the player while on the boat. I’d love to see how the relationships formed by the characters either do or do not manage to shake that loneliness up. There’s a lot of potential to see how the setting itself contorts and distorts the relationships, just like the fish.
Psychonauts:
Fandom DNWs: explicit fic for this fandom.
I just love Raz a lot. He’s my favorite little guy, and has been since I first played the game (I think I was like. Eight or so.) I love getting to see him do cool stuff and achieve his dreams, helping people along the way.
Relationship Prompts
Razputin "Raz" Aquato & Sasha Nein (Psychonauts)
- The interns + Raz get assigned to Whispering Rock as summer-camp counselors. This was probably a bad idea, given that Raz is the same age as most of the campers.
Razputin "Raz" Aquato/Lili Zanotto (Psychonauts)
- They’re so cute! And there’s not nearly enough fic about them either, whether it’s just chilling or going on missions or training together.
- My first playthrough of both games, I desperately wished that Lili would come with you into a mental world at least once, so maybe Raz and Lili teaming up to set someone’s mental world to rights.
- There’s a bunch of old psychonauts fic that involves Raz performing for Lili for the first time and I still find that trope absolutely adorable.

General Update & 2023 Fandom Plans
Wow the last month-and-change since I last posted here have been insane. I should have known they'd be a bit like that--because what finals season isn't at least a little off the walls-- but the storm that came right on its heels, and then the holidays, and then traveling...suffice to say I have been wildly busy and preoccupied for a while.
Which has had the unfortunate side effect of having less time for fandom stuff. I always find that I miss participating in fandom when I get too busy for it, writing is such an important creative outlet for me, and my stress relief routine suffers when I stop being creative. Considering I have some time before the next semester starts up, there's plenty of time to get caught up on all the fic I'd meant to write while I was busy.
Looking forward into the new year, I definitely want to broaden the number of fandoms I've dabbled in-- there's a lot of fandoms out there that I enjoy that I haven't tried writing fic for, and I've found that writing fic can be a great way to better engage with the source material. It helps me get my head around some of the narrative techniques a little better than just flat analysis. I also want to get better at writing slightly longer fic than my customary ~1k. Not that I don't like writing short fic, or reading it, but I just wish that I had more story stamina, and I think it'd be a good goal for the year to try and write more long fics than I have before. I need to figure out a good way to measure what that means, and how I can be kind to myself while still striving to hit that goal, but that's what I'm aiming for this year. Maybe joining some exchanges would be a good motivator to get those longer works out.
I'll probably update the "2023 plans" tag with more concrete fannish plans for the year as I get settled into the new year-- I'm still away from home, so even if I wanted to get a lot of planning done, I probably couldn't.

Continuation of Current Thoughts (Re: Arthuriana Fandom)
I'm probably going to go with making a new community for Arthurian fic. I don't expect it to get a lot of traction/action, since its such a small fandom, and since its so spread out over different sites, however I think it'd be a good place to gather links together for some of the other things I want to talk about in this post.
I'm starting to keep a reclist in my ao3 bookmarks as I work through the ao3 tag for Arthurian Mythology, but after a cursory search of ffn there's a bunch of fics over there as well. So I find myself wondering how difficult it would be to try and create an archived list of old Arthurian fics on livejournal so that the older fic is preserved. The fandom is small enough that any fic I can archive and gather together is probably a boon. It's not like this is a fandom where there's a cornucopia of content on every website. This is one of those things that would probably fit into a new comm for Arthurian fic well. I've also found a couple of other interesting fandom artifacts in my little google searches; there's a fanfic plot generator, for example, that would be a good idea to preserve if I can.
Pivoting to a slightly different topic, I was poking around on my bookshelf and I wound up pulling out this deceptively thin little book that's a translation of a 12th century bestiary. It's "Richard de Fournival's Beastiare de Amor," and I couldn't help thinking that it would be a great challenge, since the whole premise of the manuscript is Fournival's discussion of different animals as representative of concepts relating to Fin Amors/chivalry/courtly love. I'm leaning towards a bingo, but I also think that it could work well as just a list of prompts. Either way, I'm going to putter around with the idea a bit since *I* find the idea fun at the very least.
Edit: While tagging this post I came up with the name. Beastiary Bingo. I have to do this now.

Current Thoughts
- Wondering if it would be a good idea to write up a personal general fandom exchange list so that I don't wind up accidentally forgetting likes/dws when I sign up for things-- I'd like to get more involved with fests and exchanges, though I don't have the writing stamina for full bangs yet. Maybe a mini-bang.
- Trying to write an intro post for this account, and it's going very slowly. I have no idea what to include.
- I should practice my art more, I want to get good enough that I'm more comfortable posting and sharing. I like the rough sketch I did of a Gawain yesterday, but I'm nervous to try and draw something else in case I go through another patch where I feel like I'm worse than before.
- Thinking about the best way to try and construct a place for Arthuriana fandom to gather. I feel like it's out there, poking around/scrolling the tags on various fan websites prove it, but I can't tell whether the relative inactivity is actually due to size, or simply being spread out over multiple different sites, or just a different method of engaging with canon.
Okay so there are a lot more thoughts where that came from so I should probably split this off into a different post.

Well. It looks like there was never a better day to turn my lurking DW account into an active one.
I wish I had an icon filled with a sufficient energy of malicious glee for the occasion.

Knights Playlists Progress Check
I decided on a whim to make some playlists for my favorites of the knights, and I have mixed feelings about how they're coming along so far.
The Lancelot playlist is very short, but I think I've figured out the vibes the songs need to have on it. I'm leaning towards songs with water aesthetics (I don't know how else to describe the specific vibes they share) and lyrics about inner conflict, travel (questing), conflicting loyalties, and sin/shame. I'd like to add some songs with an edge of "but I just can't help myself," and perhaps something about fighting, but I'm happy with the progress I've made so far.
My Gawain playlist is a different story entirely. I love some of the choices that I've made in it, I think including "Witch Image" and "Call Me Little Sunshine" by Ghost were both very tongue-in-cheek choices that fit well with Gawain's character, but... something's missing and I can't quite tell what it is. I'll have to think about it more and decide whether it's just the composition of the list, or I need to pare out a bad pick, or what I should be looking to add.
If I'm being honest with myself I'm really just doing this to avoid working on fic, but in my defense, I tend to work better if I've figured out a soundtrack to write to.

Depictions of Gawain & Hair Color
Thinking about how Gawain's depiction either makes him a redhead or gives him dark hair (outside of the depictions drawing from the 2021 Green Knight movie), and how there's a distinct difference in characterization that accompanies each one. Personally I think I prefer the depictions of him with red hair, because of the way Chretien likes to write him as a paragon of Reason. Fighting back against redhead stereotypes and all that. Also idk, I just like gingers.

what am I doing?
